I am fiscally and socially conservative. I am not a politician or slick salesman, so I won't hide my intentions behind flowery platitudes. Policies implemented by local government have an incredible impact on our daily living. They determine if street repairs take precedence over pet projects, if law enforcement is enabled to enforce laws, and if men are given unfettered access to women's restrooms in parks. These are all issues on which many, not just in my district but across our city, have expressed concern.
I am running for District 8 Alderperson to stand with my neighbors who are tired of overspending and having their values and interests overlooked. We do not wish to see our family friendly city become Madison.
We are not Madison.
We are Watertown.
I am proud to call Watertown home. It would be my great honor to serve and represent you, my neighbors in District 8, on the Common Council to ensure your interests play an integral role in determining city policy.
I'm a proud Midwestern wife of a bricklayer, homemaker, and mother of a military veteran, who loves America and our beautiful state. I am not in any way affiliated with, or a sympathizer of, local or national organizations that seek to undermine America's founding principles birthed from the Constitution...heaven forbid.
I have a combined 20 years of experience advocating on behalf of customers in hospitality, customer service management, and the nonprofit sector. As Manager of Member Experience at Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), I was responsible for analyzing Voice-of-the-Customer (VoC) data. I received a Bachelor's degree from Columbia College Chicago.
I believe in good stewardship. As a taxpayer, I have the same concerns and questions as the rest of my district. Why so much spending? One of the biggest challenges of any city is allocation of funds without placing an unnecessary burden on taxpayers. I am always astounded by politicians who promise a slew of "free" programs and other new ways to spend your hard earned dollars. Meanwhile, potholes abound and waterways remain unkempt.
We should prioritize public works as these are services we all use and need. Good stewardship of taxpayer dollars and transparency across city government and services is paramount to instill public trust regarding funds allocation and sources of funds.
I unapologetically support law enforcement efforts to keep citizens safe and our streets free from chaos. We are at a crossroads in this country and in Watertown. We can look to our neighbors to the south and west to find both state and local governments that not only refuse to assist law enforcement agencies, but risk citizens' safety by inciting people to obstruct as law enforcement carries out arrests and investigations.
Citizens should not have to bear the brunt of politicians' progressive idealism. Lawlessness must not be tolerated by city officials in order to maintain a civil society.
I support traditional values. Many descendants of those who helped build Watertown still call this beautiful city home. They have expressed the desire to protect the family oriented, small town values of their city. I, and others in Watertown, join them in their hope to see Watertown continue to be a city that respects family values and where American and Wisconsin flags are flown high. Parents should be able raise their children without fear that they might be exposed to lewd acts or materials in public, taxpayer funded, spaces. Seniors should be able to retire prosperously in peace.
As Alderperson, my primary duty would be to listen and represent the cumulative interests and values of citizens in my district, not special interest groups that have contempt for their values.
Positive aspects of a city that attract people also attract businesses. Cities with low taxes, clean and safe neighborhoods, and no overregulation challenges, experience organic growth. There are a lot of opportunities for businesses to thrive in Watertown. Our proximity to major cities is an asset. We have low crime, clean streets, great police and fire departments, parks, and good schools.
Road, waterway, and park maintenance should be a priority as they are a reflection of how the city values upkeep. Any development proposals should carefully consider the impact on current residents/taxpayers, size and location of proposed development, and effects on the local environment.
